Herron Named to Key Committees Nashville – Senator Roy Herron (D-Dresden) received his committee assignments and for the next two years he will continue serving on the Senate’s most powerful committee, Finance, Ways, and Means. Additionally, Herron will serve on the General Welfare, Health, and Human Resources Committee and the Government Operations Committee. “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve on these important committees,” Herron said. “These assignments give me the opportunity to influence public policy in a way that benefits our area and all of Tennessee .” The Finance, Ways, and Means Committee handles all legislation that spends any tax dollars, including the state budget. Many Senators seek appointment to Finance because of its power. “I’m particularly pleased to continue serving on Senate Finance,” Herron said. “Being reappointed to Finance will allow me to impact the budget process and try to see that rural communities like ours are treated fairly.” The General Welfare, Health and Human Resources Committee deals with a wide range of health care issues from nursing home care to medical regulations. The committee also oversees children’s issues such as day care, child support and adoption. The Government Operations Committee has the responsibility of making sure your tax dollars are spent in the most efficient way possible. This committee reviews all state departments to ensure they are doing their jobs in the best interests of the people of Tennessee . ###
