Reflections on Election Night

Upon one of Abraham Lincoln’s several election defeats, on a night like this, Lincoln quipped, “I feel like the little boy who stubbed his toe in the dark. I am too old to cry, but it hurts too much to laugh.”

Fincher Under Fire

WASHINGTON -- The Federal Election Commission has contacted the Gates Banking and Trust Company and its Memphis lawyer regarding a $250,000 loan the bank made to 8th Congressional District candidate Stephen Fincher, both said Wednesday.

The bank loan is not mentioned in Fincher's filings with the agency dealing with federal election law but Fincher's committee filed a statement with the FEC saying the candidate loaned it $250,000 from "personal funds."

Jackson Sun: Rulings Needed on Fincher Finances

The Federal Election Commission and the U.S Attorney's Office should swiftly investigate complaints about the financial disclosures of congressional candidate Stephen Fincher and a $250,000 loan received by Fincher's campaign.

While we appreciate the reluctance of government agencies to get involved in campaign issues, these matters need to be resolved before Election Day. The initial complaints were filed more than a month before the election and deserved immediate attention.

Fincher Files False Form - Again

DRESDEN, Tenn. - Congressional candidate Stephen Fincher filed Tuesday another false form with the Federal Election Commission attempting to cover up an illegal $250,000 campaign contribution.

Fight for the 8th District Seat (VIDEO)

While Fincher continues to avoid open debates, candidate forums, or any further information on his personal finances which include his spacious home in Frog Jump, it's left up to Herron to wage a campaign more akin to "shadowboxing" than the usual political mano-e-mano.

“I think people are starting to find out that he's hiding. He's hiding from them. He's not coming clean and he outta do that. Step up. Man up. Come clean,” said Herron.

The Commercial Appeal Endorses Herron

The Commercial Appeal enthusiastically recommends State Sen. ROY HERRON for this post, primarily on the strength of his successful record of public service, his strong character and his devotion to the people and places of the 8th District.

Herron simply was born to serve and tailor made for the job of a congressman. It is critically important for 8th District voters to put the region's future in his hands. He has a firm grasp on the economic and cultural problems of West Tennessee, including Memphis, and offers creative ideas about how to restore the region's economy.

The (Clarksville) Leaf-Chronicle Endorses Herron

The retirement of longtime U.S. Rep. John Tanner, a Democrat, has left an open seat in the House's 8th Congressional District.

The Republican candidate for this seat, Stephen Fincher — like Marsha Blackburn — has refused to debate his Democratic opponent, Roy Herron. Unlike Blackburn, however, Fincher has no further public record upon which to judge him. The lack of debates coupled with his refusal to shed further light on a $250,000 bank loan for his campaign and other financial matters leave too many unanswered questions.

The Tennessean Endorses Roy Herron for Congress

The Tennessean endorses Roy Herron in the Eighth Congressional District.

Herron would work to bring jobs to Tennessee and fiscal responsibility to Washington. He plans to seek funding for a direct-access road from land in Haywood County, where a megasite industrial development is planned, to Interstate 40.

NRA Endorses Herron for Congress

The National Rifle Association, the preeminent 2nd Amendment group in America, has endorsed Roy Herron for Congress in Tennessee’s 8th District.

Herron, a Life Member of the NRA and outdoor enthusiast, is the only candidate in the Congressional race endorsed by the NRA.
