Herron Urges Bipartisan Support for Emergency Flood Assistance

State Sen. Roy Herron today sent a letter to Senator Lamar Alexander and Senator Bob Corker asking them to urge Congress and the Administration to include disaster relief for Tennessee flood victims in an upcoming emergency appropriations bill to be considered by the Senate.

"Families and businesses in Tennessee truly need a helping hand while we recover and our state gets back on its feet," Herron said. "Our local leaders, emergency responders, neighbors and volunteers have performed admirably, and we want to make sure they have the support they need during this critical time."

Tennessee's Congressional delegation sent a bipartisan letter to the White House asking that flood relief be included in the supplemental disaster relief appropriations bill the Senate Appropriations Committee will begin working on this week.

Some in Congress have objected to the appropriations bill.

“There will be those who see a short-term political advantage in drawing out the debate,” Herron said. “Tennesseans who have lost family members and everything they own deserve better.”
