Dresden - State Senator and Congressional candidate Roy Herron today reported more than $680,000 for his campaign raised in less than a month, breaking all 8th Congressional District fundraising records. Herron also reported more than $655,000 cash on hand for the 4th quarter ending December 31, 2009.
Herron is running for the seat currently held by Congressman John Tanner, who announced December 1, 2009 that he is retiring and not seeking re-election.
"I am grateful that our campaign received contributions from all 19 counties in the 8th District," Herron said. "I feel blessed by the support we received from so many in our district and across the state, including contributions from Democrats, Republicans and Independents."
Herron received contributions from more than 660 donors, including himself. He personally put $250,000 into the campaign, which is reflected as a loan on the federal report.
"I am particularly grateful to have received contributions from many long-time friends as well as so many new supporters," he said. "With their help, I will fight for jobs for West and Middle Tennessee families."
"[Herron's total is] a very impressive amount of money to be raised in such a short period of time."
-- Gov. Phil Bredesen
"In just three weeks, Sen. Herron has leaped ahead of the farmer from Frog Jump...the fact that he could out-raise his opponent in such a short time, even during the busy holiday season, speaks to Sen. Herron's deep roots in the 8th Congressional District and the enthusiasm that his candidacy has generated."
